Why do we even have it?

That will require a constitutional amendment. I doubt it will happen anytime in the foreseeable future.
Congress will have to hammer out the gay marriage and flag burning amendments and all that important stuff before they get around to anything of consequence.

We'll be lucky to modify it if we all get our act together. At least we should get rid of the Electors and instead keep the Electoral Votes. I came up with a unique system that does indeed give the Pres a national popular vote majority and Electoral Vote majority. But I won't give you any clues except you might figure it out if you log on to www.fairvote.org. Remember, the day we can at least modify the EC, the day the two-party system will be open.

If you don't know why we have the electoral college, you should not be voting.

The electoral college serves a very important purpose: It keeps the country from becoming a democracy, which the founding fathers never intended. Democracy is mob rule. It's three wolves and one sheep voting on what's for dinner.

Never. Why should we? The Electoral college grants smaller states a fair representation at the polls.
