A senator is 1 of 2 representatives from their home state who are members of the U.S. Senate - one of the two chambers in the U.S. Congress. In the senate, each state is equally represented by 2 members; as a result, there are exactly 100 senators. A senator serves for 6 years, and the elections are staggered so that approximately 1/3rd of the Senate seats are up for election every 2 years. The Senate is a more deliberative body than the House of Representatives. It's smaller, and its members serve for a longer period of time, which allows for better relationships, and usually less partisanship, than in the House - it is also less swayed by public opinion than the House might be. A U.S. Senator is a legislative position.

A governor, on the other hand, is an executive position. As an analogy: A governor is the chief executive of a state. What the President of the U.S. is to the U.S., a governor is to their state. They act as Commander-in-Chief of the State National Guard forces (when not federalized), and the ability to commute or pardon a criminal sentence. They serve 4-years, except in New Hampshire & Vermont, where they serve 2 years.

The governor is the head of your state government, in charge of financial and legal matters for all things as it relates to STATE government.

Your US Senator, represents your state in the US Senate (or is supposed too). The Senate approves for spending items that have been passed into law by the US House of Representatives, If the Senate does not fund something passed by the house essentially law is DRT (Dead right there)..
