Bin Laden was with a group called The Office of Services when he was fighting with the mujahideen and trained by CIA paramilitary advisors.

He broke from that group and formed Al-Qaeda in 1988.

Nope, we and others did not want Communists to take over
Afganistan, so we supplied support to Afgan resistance to
roust them out. When they did - they bickered among themselves
and the Taliban got the upper hand. Bin Laden started the
Al Qaida to try to remove all foreigners from Arab/Muslim controlled land, mainly through terrorism

i dont think they created it but we surely supported it.
anything we could do to hurt the USSR
