My "wife's" family has been feeding my baby "junk" food like donuts, french fries, ice cream, limes with salt, whipped cream, chocolate, all sorts of candy, etc, etc.since she was an infant(she is now 8 months. When I tell them and her to knock it off they say it's "no big deal". When I ask them why do they continue to do it, they say "I want to see what she does" or "I want to see her be happy." Now these are all adults I'm refering to and not little kids. My "wife" when I confront her about it every time she say the same things: "I didn't see it"(even though it's occuring right in front of her fat face) or "It's no big deal". Your thoughts please, because I at the point of performing violence upon them.

Junk food is a negative to anybody who consumes it. I mean it's not called "junk" food because it's good for you.

If its once in a while its not a big deal but if its an every day occurance feeding her junk food that i would definently speak up. You are her father therefore you get just as much say as her mother.
Too much junk food for a better can seriously deprive them of the good nutrients that they need in their body. Plus your daughter could become over weight at an early age. She could also have stomach problems from injesting junk food at such an early age.

Next time at a well being baby check up for your daughter mention to the doctor about the junk food and have the doctor talk to you wife about the cons of babys having junk food.

I think you're totally right and your baby is WAY too young to be eating junk food. It almost seems as if they're using her as an experiment ... let's see what happens when we do this .... I would ask the pediatrician in front of your wife and let the doctor tell her that IS a big deal and exactly why. Put your foot down now, if you don't the baby will grow up thinking that your wife's family makes the rules and that you're not involved or shouldn't be respected.

Good luck and don't get violent!!!

Yuck! I cant beleive that there are people out there that are still so ignorant about their diets. Infants need a high nutrient diet to feed their ever developing brains and bodies. Infants are not suppose to eat unhealthy food period. Studies have been done on the effects of not enough DHA & omega 3 fatty acids in a babys diet. They now supplement formula. It comes down to you are what you eat. The stuff you feed your kid today is forming the building blocks of your childs brain and body. Do you want your kid to be fat, have poor health, and a bad diet? If you do, let your inlaws keep shoveling crap into your baby's mouth.

I think it's wrong because as an adult make's that choice to eat junk food or not. You wanna have some strong words with them because it's no big deal now but when baby get's to an age when baby teeth start falling out early and when you go shopping and baby starts showing you up when baby see's something that baby want's! they are going to know about. It's not only about health it's also about behaviour . But no I don't you should try and deck them out Lol

Junk food is not good for adults then it certainly isn't going to be good for babies. I'd even elude to it as being child abuse. Read:

Junk food refers to fast foods which are easy to make and easy to consume. They are zero in nutritional value .They have only fats lying in it causing ill effects on the health of the consumer. The taste is the most attractive feature in junk foods. But is there at least little use of junk food to our body and health. If ingredients make junk foods appealing, it is the same reason that makes them health hazardous too. The fat contents, barring a few manufacturers, have high cholesterol levels. Secondly, the sugar and sodium salts have their effects on health. High calorie content with sugar can lead to obesity. Cholesterol and salt are known to setoff blood pressure, stroke and heart diseases in a chain. Excessive salts can affect functioning of kidneys too.

It is not good to be feeding a 8 month old baby that kind of foods. She needs nutritious foods, and not empty calories that junk food provide. My kids are 10, 8 & 3. And I still limit their junk food since they are still growing. And I want to teach them good eating habits. It is a big deal. You really need to find a way to make your wife understand this. Have her talk to your daughters Pediatrition. He/She should be able to convince her about your daughters sensible eating habits.
Good Luck.

ABSOLUTELY. A child needs proper nutrition as they age, not only to give them the right amount of nutrients as they grow, but to help them form healty eating habits for when they're older. Not only that, but many adult foods have traces of peanuts, soy, egg, wheat and shellfish in them, which are highly allergic.

If they insist on feeding your child, bring baby food with you. These days, baby food isn't limited to the boring flavors like peas and carrots, they have things like peach cobbler, macaroni and cheese, and many other types. Tell your wife's family that you'd like your child to eat this instead of what they've been feeding her, and tell them about allergens, and how important it is that they follow guidelines on feeding infants.

If you need to give them more information on what to feed a child at every stage, there's plenty of charts on both beechnut.com and gerber.com

Good luck! And remember, violence solves nothing, it just creates more problems.

this will affect your baby for years to come. the obesity rate in the country is very very high and if your child is obese, she/he is in danger of developing type 2 diabetes. even schools are taking action by removing junk food from the vending machines. tell them about the detrimental effects this will have in the future. a baby is not something to experiment on and "see what happens". it's sick behavior, if you ask me.
put a stop to this now, without violence of course. :)

Tell them if they don't stop, then you will not allow them near your child.

Some junk food is "no big deal", but in moderation. A french fry now and then wouldn't hurt your child, but to much candy will.
