The child becomes more verbal, and also becomes more of a reader. Students who are not read to will not want to read as much when they get older.... and it shows in their ACT scores, and all other testing that is done, throughout their high school career.

One thing that may be considered a benefit, or not, depending on how you look at it: because I was such a good reader, and put a lot of acting into my reading, my two older sons became actors. Of course, there isn't a lot of work in that field, so they have had to find work that really isn't up their alley.

My two younger children did not get read to as much, because I was so busy just taking care of 4 children, and I was older and more tired... their test scores were always very good, but they scored lower than they should have in Reading Comprehension!
