Final Fantasy games are good.
But you should play WoW. I've been sucked into it since release and have yet to find a better game. Plus, with the expansion coming out, you should definitely hop on the bandwagon.

Have you tried Yahoo's Literati? You play a scrabble like games against real people - you can chat if you feel like it (or not, if you don't) and if you create the table, you can choose to make it a timed game or not. I play timed games regularly - each game I play takes 20 minutes or so, so I can play 1, 2 or many if I have a lot of time to kill.

Have you checked out Kingdom of Loathing yet? It will keep you pretty busy but you have to use your time and plan your moves wisely because you have only so many adventures you can do per day.
