The soap will soften and gradually dissolve. If the toilet flushes normally, then there is nothing to worry about. If the toilet is clogged due to the soap bar, then either wait a few days or use a "plumber's snake" to break up the bar of soap. Do not use a plunger, that will only wedge the soap bar inside the toilet system.

Okay, I read the other remarks so far and I disagree. I think that if you want a fast solution you'll have to remove the toilet flip it over and pull the bar out. I think its going to take a long time for the soap to dissolve. A snake will probably not clear it (it may but the snake will nudge the soap out of the way, when you flush a solid the soap will move back into position and clog the toilet again. You may get lucky and the snake will snag the soap and then you can pull it out, again unlikly)

Plungging the toilet may wedge the soap into the mouth of the toilet.

So either keep flushing (it will dissolve eventually) or remove the toilet and the problem will be fixed within the hour.

It's probably wedged in there pretty well. You could remove the john and carry it out to the backyard, and retrieve the soap that way.

That is what we did when something plugged our toilet and no amount of plunging would help: to our surprise, a whole little green apple came out. Apparently one of our sons dropped his Halloween treat into the toilet.

The only other fast way is to get a snake with a rotary cutting blade or hook to break up the soap so it will pass through the sewer line.

Place the toilet out-of-order: If you let it sit, the soap will evtentually soften & dissolve. Do you have another toilet in the house that you can use pending this to happen?

Be careful if you take the advice of pouring hot water into the bowl or tank. If the water is to hot, it could crack the porcelain. The bar should dissolve fast enough on its own. If you have a second toilet in the house, use it for the next couple of days and give the soap toilet a day or two to dissolve the soap, and try to flush it again then ,, Good Luck !

if you can see the soap reach in and grab it. You won't die or turn into a turd, I promise. If you can't see the soap, it may be caught in the toilet's trap. You will need to turn the water supply valve to your toilet off, it should be coming out of the floor or wall behind your toilet, turn it clockwise. Next, flush your toilet until all of the water is out of the tank. remove your toilet by unbolting the two bolts that are on either side of the base underneath thier respective caps. Reach up through the bottom of the toilet and grab your soap (you will need to retain the soap for future use after this project!) You will need to buy a new wax ring (about $1.99) from a hardware store and replace the old one. Reverse the steps and you are back in business. Hope this helps Ps, I just read all of these answeres about dissolving the soap and chopping it up and all that mess. Why is everyone so paranoid about reaching their hand into a toilet? After every use it is filled up with fresh, clean new water. It is a water filled porcelin fixture just like your bathroom sink, so don't be scared no ones looking, reach in and grab it and get it over with!!

The soap will start to disintegrate immediately. Just as it does when sits in water. Fill the bowl with hot water. That will help the soap dissolve even faster. Once enough of it has dissolved, it will break free and flush. Oh Ya,,,, why were washing your hands over the toilet???

Turn off the water to the tank, so no new water will go in. Then run hot water, until it gets as hot as your tank will get it, and pour several gallons down the toilet. The hot water will dissolve the soap and it will go on down into the sewer line.
Once you have flushed out the soap, remember to turn the water supply back on.

It should dissolve pretty quickly if it's submerged in water all the time. At the very least it'll get really soft and break into smaller pieces.

Turn the water off behind your toilet. then flush it several times. The water should be almost gone from the toilet basin. Boil a pot of water then pour it in to toilet, carefuly. Repeat if neccisary. Hot water disolves soap very rappidly.

LOL. I once dropped my cell phone in the toilet. Try using a wire coat hanger to stab it and drag it out. Bleach will dissolve it in time but you need to just get it out.
