Sorry this question is soooo boring but i'm desperate. Our cream leather suite is absolutely minging and I don't know how to clean it. The dirt has really been ground in. I used a steam cleaner on it and that shifted some of it but it is still filthy. Can anyone help me please? Also, is there anyone that cleans leather suites professionally in the Cornwall area?

Also, can't afford a new one clever dick. I have 2 children hence no money and they got it dirty so what's the point in getting another for them to wreck! Also, it's only 2 years old!

You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. Maxi cleaner if it really dirty.

DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones.

BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather.

Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays furniture.

You should also follow this with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.

If the leather has dye transfer from clothing or is very very dirty you can use a stronger cleaner called maxi cleaner which will probably bring it up well but must be used with care as it is a strong product developed especially for this kind of problem.

LTT are a training company for leather cleaning and repairand also have trained leather cleaners all over the country who they can recommend.

Hi!

I have cream leather seats in my car, and first of all I use warm very soapy water (washing up liquid is best) and an old towel or flannel. It has to be a towel or flannel as I've used other cloths and they aren't half as efficient for soaking up the dirt.

Then I use special car leather wipes - they are MUCH better than the other furniture wipes on the market. They seem to be thicker and have much more moisture in them that the others.

When I've used the wipes, I leave it about an hour or so, then go over the seats again with a clean towel or flannel to buff them up.

I gave this tip to a friend of mine and her suite came up like new. She had to have a really good go at it though, but she said it was worth it in the end.

Hope this helps!!

Best of luck.

First of all wipe it over with a cloth dipped in water with some washing up liquid and then wrung out (to remove grease and dirt - don't get it too wet). Then go to a saddlers and get some cheap, good old fashioned glycerine saddle soap (or you could try one of the more expensive cream saddle soaps). Apply the saddle soap with a clean, dry cloth, a little at a time, using a circular motion to rub it into the leather. Don't use too much and make sure it all sinks in. Finish with a soft dry cloth to make it shine.

Ive got a cream leather suite and it got really grubby. i thought it was beyond repair. the other week, i had an idea. i got a tub, with warm water and stardrops, and a nail brush. scrub it gently with the nailbrush dipped in the solution, and that releases the dirt. wipe off the dirt with a clean damp cloth. trust me its magic! i know what your going through!
PS baby wipes dont work well, also, i bought a leather cleaner for £30, and that wasn't great either, these things are only ok immiedietly after a stain is created. my idea works for general grubbiness!!!!

Baby wipes are a really good way of getting grime off leather suites, alternatively you could try Betterware - they sell Leather cleaning wipes.
When we brought our leather suite the company sold cleaning products, so it might be worth contacting your local furniture supplier to see if they recommend anything

You can buy specialist leather cleaner from the supermarket, its normally located in the household cleaner isles - dont use anything else as detergent dries out the leather and will result in it cracking. The leather cleaner softens the leather as well as lifting dirt and grease.

I was going to say baby wipes but sounds like you need something more heavy duty - baby wipes are good on a daily basis!

Try yell.com for a cleaner and promise never to let it get that dirty again!

Use a mixture of warm water containing a neutral detergent, afterwards apply neatsfoot oil using cotton wool as an applicator, work it in in circular movements, this is a really tedious job, but the neatsfoot oil as well as cleaning" feeds" the leather
good luck to you!.
