I run Windows XP Professional version 5 and it flatly refuses to recognise CD .s that are empty, making it difficult for me to back up data. Any suggestions?

The drive has DVD Rom writen on it

Are you sure the drive is a recordable drive? The front of the drive should say "Re-Writable" somewhere on it - if you don't see that, it's probably not and you won't recognise any blank discs.

If it does have this, go with Verbatim discs, I've found these to be perfect.

I recommend flinging cd out the window. That usually works.

is this drive one tht came with the computer if it is it may need a update too the drivers or the rom.

Check with the manufacturer and if this dont work go get a new one for 50 bux.
