British and true Americans can rival with each other and still be friends afterwards and go have a beer, it's like brothers competing with each other.

It's not so much a rivalry but it's like watching in despair at what your young cousin is up to.

I'm English and for centuries we were the "worlds policeman" and to be fair we did a good job. Since the second world war after saving Europe we had to rebuild our country and for some reason we also had to pay America to rebuild Europe. This meant as a nation we lost our economic strength and the US the took over the vacant "worlds policeman" position.

Our despair comes at the terrible job the yanks are making of it compared to how we did it or how much better we'd do it.

because they both envy eachother's accents. lol JK!

I think its because we are both very modern countries with different governmental veiws, and in sports seem to be around a simmilar level exchanging wins.

But, another common theory is:

You are brainwashed as a kid into beleiving the american ideals are definately and ultimatley the best by government censoring and your parents passing on the brainwash. part of this "brainwash of death" is the assumption that the british are fat idiots who like to play cricket and soccer too much, are arrogant and have bad tempers. Which is only true for one british person I know. (my 7th grade science teacher - bite off my head so i dont have to deal with him even though im well past the class- will ya? ) it is the rare person like him that creates these stereo types. We like to joke about them, no??? it s a freindly rivalry, but still!!!! lets not be mean/

just so u know, im not at all against the government, just the fostering of governmental opinions in kids heads- this i disagree with. ;O let um make up their own mind and then we see how many bush- like presidents we have in the future!!! :)

sorry, im passionate.

oh gsh sorry i keep 4getting things i wanted to add:
and btw we dont really hate each other, i have nothing against brits --> but you must admit they are a common topic for jokes and things?
ehheeeh.

ok im done!

i began out looking at formulation One religiously while i became 12 and Eddie Irvine signed for Ferrari, so regrettably i've got no first-hand journey of pre-1996 rivalries. notwithstanding from looking at end of season overview video clips and analyzing books, it quite is the Alain Prost as against Ayrton Senna conflict which springs to recommendations. i do no longer think of that formulation One has had any such heated opposition on condition that those 2 greats locked wheels, and it quite is not in all risk that there ever would be returned. Michael Schumacher as against Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 became quite yet another stressful opposition - as became Schumacher as against Damon Hill for the time of the mid to late 90s - yet neither comes on the factor of the Prost/Senna conflict. As I even have already pronounced, it is barely my eleventh season looking at F1 so my expertise is extremely constrained for this question, notwithstanding it quite is clean to confirm a sensible question being asked for a transformation!!

Americans can never forget they used to be ruled by Britain once.
Secretly they would like to have an empire now like the British used to once. The Americans think because they are the major economic power in the world they are better then the British and we are their poor relations. It's like a son looking up to his father and saying i'm better then you! Whereas we think they are spoilt little children with dangerous weapons who are always getting into war and finding themselves in trouble. Of course we are jealous of their living standards!

I dunno what planet you are on but I consider the Brits my brother. I love them as I love the US and if I were younger and there was a war where the Brits wer in danger, I would fight for them. They need us now more than ever because what becomes of their struggle with Islam extermestis will affect us and the rest of western civilization. Besides they ahve us beat on most everything except food. God bless the Queen and hail to the Cheif( no GW though)

I think the rivalry you speak of is more of a friendly one than an actual hate-filled one.

I love the Brits (called them limeys and they called us yanks - all in good fun). My dad worked with them when he was in the military stationed in Germany and I got to know a lot of them and their children. In fact, my first girlfriend was a Brit.

God Save the Queen, and God Bless America

I think the problem is that nowadays, most Americans are anti-America... it sends a message to everyone else that its ok. I personally like the British and think its about time we all put our past behind us and make up!
