It seems that the more I encounter people out in society, the more I realize that everyone thinks they should step all over everyone else to get what they want!

What happened to love thy neighbor and treat others as you wish to be treated? How about please and thank you? I feel like I'm speaking Chinese sometimes!!

Please tell me that I am not the only one who notices that this jerk-epidemic is spreading. Give me some insight please! Thank you!

We are becoming a society with an attitude of entitlement. Each new generation is worse. We feel that we are entitled to what we have, to be first, to be best, etc, and with that attitude, manners go down the drain. Why should you use manners if you're ENTITLED to be first in line? If you're ENTITLED to gifts and money and power?
We are NOT entitled to things and we as a whole need to learn this, and learn again to be grateful for what we have.

Nope, your not the only one that has noticed this horrible trend.

With today's society, everything is fast paced and on the go. Families don't really sit down like they used to at diner. And with the way things are, most families have to have two incomes, meaning the parents are spending less time with their kids and unable to teach them proper manners. Instead, kids are being raised at day care or after school programs where they can run around and play, maybe have a few activities here and there. But are these centers teaching them morals and manners? Judging by how people are now-a-days, that's a big NO!

It is pretty sad how rude people have become. I have been walking towards a store when the person in front of me looks back, see's me, and slips inside, not even bothering to hold the door for me.

And it gets pretty darn old when I hold the door for someone, and half a dozen people hurry up so I can hold it for them.... yet never even mumble a simple thanks. Of course, I will continue to hold open doors for people, because that's how my mother raised me.

Sorry for the long spiel. Your not alone though in seeing a huge shift in poor manners with the newer generations.

I could not agree more! Over the past few weeks I have been noticing how many people actually say 'please' and 'thankyou'. I am astounded that the majority of people do not say it. It is such an easy and basic way to show someone that you have appreciated what they have done.

It seems that too many people are just looking after themselves. So many people do not open doors for others, give up seats on buses or even have the basic manners to eat with their mouth closed!

There are so many valid reasons for this - lack of parenting, poor role models, the fast pace of life. However, I really think that these are just pathetic excuses. There is NO reason that a person feels that they do not need to say 'please' and 'thank you'.

Check out the website Random Acts of Kindness, you may find it reassuring and uplifting.

In order for children to learn manners someone needs to take time to teach them , not just assume the kids will pick it up somewhere else .
Parents don't spend enough time with their kids !

The parents are not teaching their kids manners. They ship them off to daycare when they are 6 weeks old. They just are not doing their job. Shame on lazy parents!

Parents do not spend enough time teaching their children the basics anymore. Sad commentary on the USA.

Freedom of speech? Or maybe perhaps becoming too comfortable in the presence of strangers? Bad parenting could be to blame too.
