The purpose is to not have panty lines when your wearing anything without pockets. Panty lines are disgusting. They're just as comfortable, and make you feel alot sexier.

Thongs are an acquired taste. It's always a big moment when a girl wears her first one, and it takes some getting used to. But once you've worn them for awhile, you don't even think about it.
Of course, some women wear thongs to look and feel sexy, but the real purpose is so you can wear thin or form-fitting clothing without showing any underwear lines. Nothing looks worse than lines showing through, and thongs serve their purpose well.

I tried them on once because one of my friends told me to wear them to not show the panty lines through my tight fitted pants. The feeling is unbearable for me. How can I put it. It's like having a wedgy....ALL THE TIME. Until I take it off ofcoarse. Ha, never again did I bother to put that that thing (thong) on. Unless my boy-friend tells me to. Hee Hee.

Thongs are really for tight or fitted clothing when you don't want to show panty lines. I honestly don't like wearing thongs.

They are comfortable if you are wearing say tight jeans as other types of underwear can ride up or leave a line.
They are not good to wear all the time as they can cause thrush or skin to be torn.
Personally I think they make hideous bikinis, leave nothing to the imagination.

I don't actually enjoy them, but I wear them with tight pants, so the panty line doesn't show.

I find them to be more comfortable, plus they dont leave panty lines for all to see if you wear tight things. Those big ol' panties get bunched up and are unnecessary.

Not a woman but I can answer.
They are uncommfortable but you get use to it and after time its like nothing at all.
Women were them so you do not see panty lines.

No, I never wear them as they are unbelievably uncomfortable. Women who claim they like them are crazy and must be doing it for sex appeal and to get men's attention.
