My girlfriend is getting a party hysterectomy and I wanted to know because I am going carry the baby but I was just making sure that even after this surgery she can still produce eggs since I am not ready to have kids right this second and her surgery is in early November

It depends entirely on whether it was a total hysterectomy or not. In a total, the ovaries are removed as well as the uterus, so no, in that case, a person would not produce eggs anymore. If a person just had the uterus removed, and her ovaries were left, she could still produce eggs, but of course she wouldn't get pregnant naturally. If she wanted to, she could have fertility treatments and have a surrogate mother carry the baby, so she could still have her own kids.

No. A Hysterectomy is the surgical procedure in which your doctor removes everything that makes you female on the inside, with the exception of your breasts.

They remove - ovaries, fallopian tubes, & your uterus. If any of these are not removed, then it is not called a hysterectomy.

My mother had a hysterectomy right after my sister was born in 1983, when she was only 22 years old.

A hysterectomy refers to the removal of the uterus. An oophorectomy is the removal of the ovaries and is often done in tandem with a hysterectomy. As long as her ovaries are left behind, she'll still ovulate. If they're removed along with her uterus, no eggs.

If the surgeons leave the ovaries it is a possibility but there will be no periods or anything. Ideally she should conserve some eggs just in case it doesn't work

Depends, if they only took the uterus and not the ovaries, then yes, you still produce eggs, if they did a total hysterectomy, then no, your ovaries would be gone and you would not produce eggs.

i'm assuming by "party" you meant to say partial hysterectomy, meaning they don't take any/both of hte ovaries. in this case, yes, her eggs can still be harvested.

No. If your ovaries are gone, how would you produce eggs?

If you still have your ovaries, yes.
