They did night time bombings too and these were to obviously destroy as much as they could but with the added effect of wearing us down mentaly. After going through a nights bombing the nation was fatigued and they were then able to catch us off guard, then go on to bomb their intended targets in broad daylight with minimum damage being done to their aircraft.

First light is the preffered time, not breakfast. It is the time of least awareness and most "other activity" so the thinking being that the enemy would be an easier target.
Also a night of bombing was supposed to pee them off enough so they'd be knackered and unable to offer up a good fight.
You have to remember that in WW1 the generals etc were still only generals because of their family connections, land ownership etc not because of their qualifications so they inevitably made stupid mistakes with no obvious logic.
Sadly, even 100 years on, it still exists in today's army but to a lesser extent.

German U-boats attempted to cut the supply lines between North America and Britain. The nature of submarine warfare meant that attacks often came without warning, giving the crews of the merchant ships little hope of survival. The United States launched a protest, and Germany modified its rules of engagement. After the infamous sinking of the passenger ship RMS Lusitania in 1915, Germany promised not to target passenger liners, while Britain armed its merchant ships. Finally, in early 1917 Germany adopted a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, realizing the Americans would eventually enter the war.[31] Germany sought to strangle Allied sea lanes before the U.S. could transport a large army overseas.

because by that time everyone would not expect an attach since mostly everyone would be on the dining table like what happened in the Battle of Chateau Thierry last July 18, 1918.
