What excuses have people heard or used for a reason to not pay child support?

My ex has used visitation, he lives with his elderly mother, and he had to make his "brand new" car payment first.

I already have a case, and it's being worked out. However, I'd like to put together the most common excuses used or heard for an article on child support. Thank you in advance for your input.

I've heard tons of them on here...the key is to not put up with it. As soon as they miss a payment turn them in to the court. After that odds are it will come straight out of their check before they can spend it.

I've met lots of people in my time and I've found that each support case is different. I've also seen alot of cases where the women doesn't need the money, but uses it as a weapon to get back at her ex. Of course there are those who truely do need and deserve the support.

To answer your question, you should just ask yourself what you would do if you had to pay out a large portion of your income to your ex, knowing that not all of that money will go toward your child. Let's just be honest and realistic here, we all know that not all the money goes toward the child.

There are those who need it and there are those who abuse it too.

By the way, the DA is a waste of time. My wife was told by the CA, DA that her ex could pay just once every three months and there is nothing they could do about it because he is self employed. They told her to not worry because she will eventually get the money. He is well over $1500 behind in payments. She makes about $32k and year and he makes around $250K. I'd say he is a dead beat dad.

I used to work for a family law attorney and I've heard quite a few, however none will stand up in court. If he doesnt have a job, he's still required to pay his child support based on income. That doesnt mean no-income, that means a percentage of minimum wage. It's assumed he could get a job at McDonalds and make at least minimum wage. The reason most men dont pay child support is because most women cannot afford an attorney to take him to court and enforce the orders.

One more thing, child support is not contingent upon him getting to see his kids. If he wants to take you to court for visitation that's a whole seperate issue.

this wasnt an excuse from my ex but an excuse from the child support office. i was told that my sons father could not paychild support because he had to take care of his other children first. iam not knocking that but what iam saying is that our son was his first born so doesnt that mean he should take care of him first? or at least split up the cost of care starting with the oldest?

I agree that folk should not be making out in public (get a room!). so some distance as utilising their youngsters as an excuse -- if I had youngsters, i does no longer prefer them uncovered to that the two, regardless if it grew to become right into a gay or at present couple making out (as I pronounced, get a room!).

i cant find a job
i owe my mom money
i have bills
or simply that he just cant pay it....and my fave....i am not paying support b/c you spend it on yourself.

well i fixed him and got him put in jail, and a judgment for almost $10K against him... now he's under my thumb to pay or i report him again and he goes back to jail!

If he gets behind about $1,000 or more, take it to court and have them garnish his check. He sounds like a real winner.
