Only other way....

Give birth!

2006-10-23 09:32:27 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 5 0

Nope, beside the amnio-centisis, but I don't think an OBGYN would even authorize one simply to tell the sex, they are risky. Other than that, they only other ways are an ultrasound and birth. Keep in mind an ultrasound is not 100%, I have heard several stories documenting this. My baby had it's legs crossed during our ultrasound and our only other option is to pay to have an ultrasound elsewhere. Interesting facts though:
70% of mother's intuitions are correct when guessing the sex of the baby

even more intriguing

almost 90% of the maternal grandmother's are correct when guessing the sex of the baby...so maybe ask your mom! Good luck!

You can't. The old wives tales are just that - old wives tales. They say if the baby's heartbeat is fast than about 140 bpm its a girl and lower its a boy. But when my mum was pregnant with my brother they told her it was a girl from the heartbeat! We still tease my (6 tall and very masculine) brother over that!!! The ring test is another one. They also say if you carry low down or the bump has a pointed shape its a boy, but if you carry high and its a rounded shape its a girl. I'm a having a boy and the chinese lunar calendar was right for me, but the ring test wasn't!!!! I am carrying low down. My baby's heartbeat has varied so that itsn't really accurate either. As for the morning sickness thing - well I've had terrible sickness and have been confirmed as having a boy. So that doesn't work!

I have head there is a blood test that is done in Europe to tell the sex of the baby. They check you for male hormone levels. I was like you, I did not want a scan, but I would have liked to know the sex of my baby if I could do it without having a scan. I don't know where this blood test is available.

Science has come a LONG way.

The are now tests that will tell you the sex of your child as early as 5 weeks of pregnancy. The only way it doesn't work is if you had an abortion or miscarriage within the past 6 months because there could be traces of the hormone that they are looking for from the previous pregnancy in your blood. But if neither of those are factors, and you can afford it, you can send your blood to this lab. They send the kit to your home. This is amazing! I wish they had this 8 yrs ago when I had my daughter!

There really is no way. Some people will try to tell you that your cravings or the way your hair grows or whatever else can tell you the sex of the child, but those are old wives tales and not to be taken seriously. Most women, according to a study, can just tell, however, for the most part, just get the scan.

The only way to 100% tell the sex of your baby is by amniocentesis. Kind of a risky procedure just to find out the sex. Most docs or ultrasound techs can tell the sex of your baby with pretty good accuracy just from the ultrasound. They will tell you this is not 100% positive.

Try some of the old wives tales or the Chinease calendar. It was right on with everyone in my family. Plus, my mom swears by the wedding ring on a string thing. They are mostly myths, but a lot prove to be correct more often than not. Good Luck!

There isn't a positive way to find out what you are having without an ultrasound. The only other way is to find out when you give birth.
