It depends on what you want to use it on. For paper or cloth, you could use plant extracts to dye things e.g red berries. I think you can use Iron Oxide for wood and such but you then need a liquid base to mix it with. I think red watercolours are generally iron oxide based.

It depends what type of paint.
Usually you just get white paint and add red pigment.

To all those people who are saying you can't make red paint- you are so wrong. Where do you think all the red paint in the world came from. Was it a miracle? No, it has all been made by man.

Well what do you mean exactly? How to mix colours to get red? Red is a primary colour so you don't.

How to just make red paint from scratch? Well that's a whole different question.

If you're looking to actually make paint, you will need to mix dry red pigment (such as red cadmium) to whatever you are using as a paint vehicle (linseed oil, egg tempera, etc). If you're trying to mix colours to make red, then your out of luck because red is a primary colour as mentioned above.

Why make yourself? Just buy it.
OK, paint usually contains some or all of the below ingredients:
1)acrylics,
2)polyurethanes,
3)polyesters,
4)melamines,
5)epoxy,
6)oils,
7)petroleum distillate,
8)alcohols,
9)ketones,
10)esters,
11)glycol ethers,
12)pigments,
13)dyes,
14)catalysts,
15)thickeners,
16)stabilizers,
17)emulsifiers,
18)texturizers,
19)adhesion promoters,
20)flatteners.

So I say you forget about it, understand?

Magenta paint + Yellow paint =Red

MIXING COLORS OF PAINTS - INKS - DYES
Also called subtractive* Color Mixing

The other side of color mixing is when color paints, inks, markers, and other coloring media are combined. Again in this case, many different colors can be mixed to make new colors. Yet it is possible to make almost all colors by mixing just three. These three colors are:

cyan, magenta and yellow

There is a connection between the first three colors: red, blue and green, and the second three colors: cyan, magenta and yellow. If any two colors of one group are mixed together in equal amounts, they will make a color from the other group.

Mixture of cyan, magenta, and yellow paint

PRIMARY COLORS OF PIGMENTS, DYES, INK

cyan

magenta

yellow

There are three primary colors for each of the two color mixing systems.

ADDITIVE

SUBTRACTIVE

One set of colors is red, green and blue.

The other set is cyan, magenta and yellow.

Colors from one group mix to form the other group.

PRIMARIES OF COLOR LIGHT

Red light + Blue light =Magenta

Blue light + Green light =Cyan

Green light + red light =Yellow

I know that red food colouring is made from Cochneal which is made by crushing a certain kind of beetle (Cochneal beetle?) As for paint? I dunno. As you may know red, along with yellow and blue are primary colours which means you can't make them from mixing other colours.
