I'd like to find either a nice place to meditate, relax, and just enjoy nature. A lot of weekend retreats cost over $250 which would burn a hole in my pocket. Even a nice little cozy hotel on a beach would be nice. I'm in the Bay Area. Anyone have any suggestions?

Camping near big sur ? It shouldn't be that bad.

I would say Monterey is the great choice.

Or if you go up to North the redwood forests, that ain't that bad also.

How about the drive along the HW 1 up north ?

I suggest that you go on a cruise. You may be surrounded by a large number of people, but they're all there to do the same thing you are...to get away from it all and relax from the every day. Plus you are out in the middle of the ocean where nothing related to work can reach unless it charters a jet and can land on water.

And, should you decide that a voyage to the sea is not the place for you. You can always pack a backpack with the essentials needed to survive a weekend in the woods at a national park. Pack a sleeping bag, fishing pool, several lighters, and walk as far into the forest as you can in one day and you'll be all by yourself. Just you, mother nature, and wolves, deer, and bears and squirrels.

You can find a number of places along the Medocino coast line that range from about $80/nite to over $250. It's just a little over a 2 hr drive north of you and it is so nice and peacefull.

I just went to Ft. Bragg last weekend...I didn't stay over nite, but I sat on the cliffs and walked along the beach. It's my happy place.
