I have a friend that says her feelings for all her friends are equal. I don't get that. I feel very differently and very unequally about each of my friendships. Some of my friends are better friends than some of my other friends and as a result they hold more value for me. Am I the one who is strange? or is it this friend that puts everyone on equal ground regardless of how good of friend they are.

I don't think either of you are strange, everyone has their own definitions, rules, boundaries, etc for what their relationships.

Personally, I prefer your view more; there should be some people in life who impact us to a greater degree than others, because everybody is complex in their own way, and some are going to fit in more closely than others.

Perhaps what is upsetting you here is that your friend does not hold your "unequal" view, and you may feel closer to her than she apparantly does to you. That could sting a little, but if that's the frame of reference she's coming from, then you can learn to live with that. You and I know that she's the one that's missing out.

You are not strange. We all have friendships that are on varying levels. Some friends are life long friends that you can count on no matter what, some friends are only there for a season and kinda come and go through your life and some are only for a short period before they move on. You're feelings will be different for every one of them in different ways and on different levels. Your friend is not being true to themself if they honestly believe that every friend is equal.

No way...feelings for everyone in our lives varies and is never constant between them. She just isn't willing to stand up and admit that some people mean more because she thinks she will hurt someones feelings.
