I prefer music without words. I'm having a party tonight and it would be great if I had some suggestions. Thanks!

I am personally a fan of John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. Maybe you will like them too!

Depends on the type. If you're going for "light jazz" - I'd suggest something like "Jazz After Midnight" "Jazz for a Rainy Day" or "Hopeless Romantics"

"Jazz After Midnight" is $6.99 new on Amazon - but you won't have it by tonight.

Check your local library - most of them usually have CDs you can borrow for a week free of charge... Plenty of Jazz in there... I also have the Time-Life Jazz Masters and Jazz Legends collections - anything from those are good.

I know I am a little off topic, but what do you think of electronic music nowdays?
I think Mp3s are the most popular music format out there..

I just found this site related to downloading MP3s right off the internet:

First, I would like to say, politely, that all of the answers you have received so far, are NOT LIGHT jazz.

I am going to give you a list of light instrumental jazz. This list is not smooth jazz, it's real jazz, but laid back:

This is a great compilation by a legendary balladeer,

Live gig in a mellow setting,

The gentle side of Coltrane,

Two great sax players,

Getz playing mellow, but very in depth,

I think the albums I have suggested are mellow but not at all boring. I hope that if you try them, they help create a nice vibe for your party.
