It also blocks web ads, which is fine, but when i try and surf back, those adds are in the history as a page. has anybody seen that happen?

Is your Phishing filter on? If so, try turning it off under Tools and see if that helps.
Also, Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab - Reset Intranet & Trusted Sites to default.
Reset Internet - click custom - then at the bottom choose medium instead of medium high - click reset -click okay

Everyone is going to say switch to firefox..........and they are right!!!!!

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH BETTER IT IS!!!!

but, if for some reason (usually corporate websites) you need to use I.E. here goes.

I.E. has settings that allow you to block out potentially harmful websites, and website features. Certain ways pages are setup can cause it to be blocked. You are going to have to go to tools/options (or something similiar, I haven't used I.E in a long time) and adjust your security setting lower. Its usually just a bar that you use your mouse to pull down.
