I don't know what planet you live on, but the USA is the richest country in the world. There are poor people in all countries, and in the USA if you are poor then you are no different than poor people in any other country. Why does your country have poor? For the same reason. Do you have any idea how much money this country gives to other countries each day? We have a smaller number of poor people per capita than most any country in the world. What country do you live in? We probably send relief money to your country too. You need to get your facts straight before you assume we have a lot of poor living here. We have our share, as does any country. Good Luck!!!

Well the US is a Capitalist society which basically means your on your own.You are what you make of yourself, if you work hard and play your cards right you can make yourself a winner, Although I admit its not easy and many stuggle just to make ends meet at best.
In alot of other countries free health care and college education is a basic right, not here and thats what stumps alot of people. I know alot of folks who are long since grads of college and universites that are still in a struggle to pay off student loans. And as for healthcare well lets just say it is not cheap. Another reason is the unfair and very unforgiving credit scoreing system we have here. If you mess up on somthing like a loan or a morgage or even a cell phone bill it can kill your credit rating and then life becomes a living hell.
But like i said what it boils down to is its all up to the individual, thats part of freedom is responibility and alot of people dont for whaever reason make good choices and they pay the price.
All this and of course haveing a dumbass as a president and a do nothing congress does not help much either.

Hah, the US is considered to be a great nation only by its own inhabitants. There is not a lot of freedom to advance for the poor, and there is a lot of poor people.

When higher education becomes subsidized so everyone can take a degree if they so wished, then we can talk about a nation of oppurtunities.

I certainly wouldn't have the money to study in the US, and hell, I'd probably live at my parents place still. I don't see how you call that freedom, but hey, if you like it, by all means, stay there. No need to butt into my free higher education and state aid for studying.

USA is not the richest country, Norway is richer per capita.

Instead of thinking of the U.S. as a great nation think of it just for a minute as a city. Just about every city has a poor side of town and a more wealthy side and many times a middle-class in between. the U.S. as well as many other countries works the same way except on a much larger scale. But many times in some other countries the gap between the wealthy and those that live in poverty is much bigger. The U.S. is just thought to have more oppurtunity beacause of its moral which does not always work out that we are all created equal.

Where are u from? Everywhere has poor people. That is very ignorant of u to try and base whether or not the USA is a great nation on the fact that there are poor people.

Because some people are just lazy and expect a free ride and then complain about how poor they are. I would think every country has a poor population. USA is known as the land of opportunity but you have to work for it.

Being referred to as great does not necessarily mean that every citizen of a country is wealthy. There are poor people wherever you go, but that does not mean they are not great, that they are poor in every sense.

America is a great country because we were founded on values. Values that we have fought for and believed in since before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

This country is not great because we are rich or poor, we are great because we stand up for what we believe in. Whether these values will last for eternity is uncertain, for the fight is not over. Americans are fighting threats from foreign and domestic enemies every day. We are fighting amongst ourselves as we attempt to ward off terrorism from foreign entities. Our beliefs for freedom and democracy remain strong, and that's what makes America great.

Even the poor people in America have a car, a tv and most of lifes modern conveniences, so nice try. Try being poor in the Sudan, or one of the former east block countries, makes our poor seem rich!
