if a college class is failed, does it matter how badly? for example if i got a (50) in a course would it be different from getting a (12). or would i simply be assinged a letter grade, in this case an F.

How would it affect my overall gpa, would it make a difference?
Also if i retook my class would it get averaged out with the "F"? or with the actual #grade that i got the first time?

thanks

My paritcular college takes the average of the first 2 attempts. so would this mean that even if i got an A (4.0) the second time, average w/ the F (0) i would only get an average of a C (2.0?

The F would be assigned a zero (0). D's are 1, C's are 2, B's are 3, and A's are 4. It doesn't matter what the number grade you received. An F is an F.

And the zero is averaged with the same weight as any other letter grade, so it will drag your GPA down.

If you retake the class, the original F will still stay on your GPA. Your new grade will also become part of your GPA.

Edit:

Yes, you'll get a C average for the class (2.0) if you get an A the second time around (0+4 div by 2=2).

Well... the F is just an F that will be accounted by points into your GPA. fo instance:
4.0 A
3.0 B
2.0 C
and so on...
Some universities let you retake the course to replace the F. Once it's replaced with a higher grade it's like you never got the F. But some just leave it and you get another grade. I would just check on the policy that your college has.
Good luck

If you fail, you get no credit for the course.
But the 0 does get figured into your GPA.
It shouldn't matter if you get a 50 or a 12, you still failed.
Does it matter if you shoot at someone and miss by inches or miles? You still missed!
If you retake the course, the grade is based on your performance that time, it is not averaged with the failed first attempt.

An F is an F, no matter how much you failed by. Every university looks at retakes differently. Some will expunge the F from your transcript, others might average it out. Check with your advisor.

F is EXTREMELY BAD. IT DOES NOT TRANSFER AND BRINGS YOUR GPA DOWN. You can retake the failed class to get a better grade but the retake and failing grade will show up in your transcript along with your gpa
Trust Me, I am in college.
YOU ARE GOING TO STUDY VERY INTENSELY!!

if you got F in one sub. then the gpa is also change and go to decrease....

becouse the cradet hours of F subjct must bhe divided by earn points...but if points are zero by F, then gpa will decrease
