Just be honest , and let them know that Mommy is going to a place that is going to make her feel better because she is sick . They will ask so tell them no she can't get better at home or by herself . Make sure they know she loves them . I am a recovering Alcoholic 5 years sober , there can be a happy ending !

Tell them that their mommy has is sick and she is unable to care for them right now. Let them know that it is not their fault and that you are sure that she love's them, but she has to take care of herself for a while and get herself some help, so that she can be an even better mommy. When they get older you can let them know a little more, but hopefully she will get better before too long.

Tell them the truth about it. Do not slander their mother what ever you do. Explain to your children what has happened to their mother and make it a research project with your children so they can better understand this disease. Ask them how they feel about it, keep the communication between you and your children open.
