pine tar. every pitcher does it when the playing conditions are wet and/or cold. it helps with the grip. Usually they put the pine tar under the bill of their cap or on the heel of their glove.
Kenny just made the mistake of using so much that it was visible with all this new HD TV equipment.

Gee, I didn't realize pine tar residue could be cleaned off so quickly. After the umpire visited the mound, nothing was found, all the umpires kept an eye him for the rest of the game, but he must have used the same ball through out. Face it, the only thing he had on his hands was the Cardinal's number.

Not really sure. I've heard that it's pine tar, tobacco juice or just dirt. IMHO, it's chocolate cake :)

It was a substance that is illegal in baseball that makes your hands able to get a better grip. It was most likely pine tar. He washed it off after the first inning. It helps you to pitch better because of the better grip.

Without a doubt, PINE TAR!! Pitchers now absolutley everything that is on their hands, dirt, hangnail, blister, etc. He knew exactly what was on his hand and it's pine tar!

pine tar most likely...its def not dirt, it was green, looksed sticky and shiny....if i was him i seriously would have said the thing about bathroom hygeine, cuz then no one would have wanted to check it...but it def. was not dirt

I'm not sure. I heard that he puts pine tar or something on his hand because of superstition or something.
