MSS is where I stay if I'm going to stay downtown..MSS has a section of the Berlin wall in the mens room, along with some really cool antiques in the hotel/casino.. The rooms are nice and clean, nothing fancy, I never notice the trains. I play a little quarter video poker and have never had to pay for a room or a meal...The cocktail service is among the best in all LV. MSS sends out a mailer every month for at least 2 free nights, sometimes more..The 777 Brew Club serves a good steak, the Garden Court Buffet is the best downtown, with the possible exception of the tue/fri/sun seafood buffet at the Fremont..I have not eaten at the Pullman Grille but friends who have say it's excellent...

If you like to play VP this is the place to play(DT), MSS has plenty of full pay VP(JOB-DW-DB)..Generally speaking, because there is no way to know the pay out of slot machines, the better the VP the better the slots...MSS, Fremont and California are sister properties, so you can play at all three with the same slot club card..This is great site for LV information http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com

It's a nice clean place and reasonably priced. It's away from the Main Street of downtown but, its a short walk. Buffet is a bargain too. The only downside I remember is Sunday mornings around 7 am the freight train rumbles by if you are on the I-15 side of the tower. It doesn't last long but, it is a little noisy. Most times I have slept through it. Casino, eh, I don't think the machines get enough play to win there. Go next door to the California club, usually more action on the slots.

Good luck.

Economical and a good location on the Strip would be the standard rooms at the Imperial Palace, the Flamingo and Harrahs. The decor of the standard rooms is older and outdated with Harrah's probably having the nicest standard rooms, but the casino feels claustrophobic to me because of the low ceilings. You can't beat the locations or the price (on strip) of any of them. Basically Harrah's and the Flamingo have rooms as low as $39 weekdays and the Imperial Palace has rooms as low as $28 for weekdays None of these places charge a “resort fee” either.
