Marie Antoinette. She is portrayed as being arrogant and overbearing to the peasantry of France, but in reality she was incredibly naive about the world outside of the palace. She left her home of Austria to move to France at the age of fourteen, to marry a fat, akward, and shy Prince (Dauphin) who was more interested in hunting than in ruling a country. He also had a medical condition that prevented him from fathering children for the first seven years of his marriage, which was blamed on Marie Antoinette. She rebelled against the strict rules of the French court, but eventually settled down. When the French Revolution happened, she was imprisoned for several years until she was killed at the age of 38. She never, as history says, uttered the famous quote, "Then let them eat cake." In fact, her last words were, "Monsiur, I ask your pardon. I did not do it on purpose."

Richard III. He was character-assassinated by Shakespeare, depicted as being hump-backed (he had one shoulder larger than the other, like most men in those days due to the heavy armoury they carried about with them such as the broad sword); he has been cast as the villain for the death of his nephews though there is little evidence in his character or previous form that he was the culprit - there were plenty of other powerful men who are equally likely to have been involved in the Princes' murders. He was also very popular as a local ruler when he was Duke of York and the descriptions of him before he became King are totally at odds with the descriptions of those afterwards.

Having lost his son and heir and also his wife, whom he cherished, he pretty much gave up the battle to continue and was slain by Henry VII's army.

Lucrezia Borgia- She was not technically royalty but was the daughter of pope Julius in 1500's Rome. She gets a bad rap for supposedly poisoning her husband... ok maybe she did..... but witht eh rest of her life she was a patroness of the arts and without her influence many famous artists would never have gotten a start. She was a real renaisance woman in a society which did not encourage any creative expression from women.

Henry the Eighth--
All he wanted was to have a nice wife. And obviously he could not find "the one." A lot of people want to find the one. Henry never did. If he did he would not have killed them.
All he wanted was a wife.. one he liked. And that is why he divorced them.
I also think Henry was a control freak too and that is another factor.

OTHER ROYALS:
Camilla-- yeah she did bad stuff with big ears but that does not mean that she is evil
Prince Harry- he just wants to be a rebel, so yeah... he is not going to kill anyone or anything. maybe he justs wants his mother back and to be a normal guy.
Queen Mary I- she just wanted to please god.

Richard the Lion-Hearted. He's generally portrayed as being a heroic figure, but - look at the reality.

He incited an anti-Jewish riot in London.

He got England involved in a ridiculous war far away, got captured, and had to be ransomed at enormous expense.

He was a really really bad king.

Marie Antoinette. She was born into the Austrian Kingdom and was forced to marry King Louis 15( who she did not love), and to produce an heir. She wanted to help her people of France, but could not because they were starving, and was so much against her for what she had. Her children died while under 15. Herself and her husband were decapitated within months of each other. I wish I could paste a picture her of here, but it won't let me.

Prince Harry, he's a royal rebel but really he's just a normal thinking and acting person his age. And I suspect that Prince William has secrets in his head too and he himself is known to party and cut loose, especially lately.

bloody mary- she had a horrible childhood, caused by her oh-so-wonderful father (who i have very little sympathy for), had few people she could rely on while growing up, and thenshe had an embarrassing marriage. she never really had the security that everyone needs in their life, and that reflected in her actions as queen

marie antoinette- she wasnt equipped to be queen, never should have been queen, was hated by her people before they ever even met her, had a weak husband who shouldnt have been king any more than she should have been queen.
i certainly think that both these queens made bad choices in their lives, particularly bloody mary, but its really all a reflection of their childhood.

Mary I (also known by Protestants as Bloody Mary) She was caught as a young child in the middle of the horrible divorce of her mother, Katherine of Aragon, and her father, Henry VIII. Abused mentally and possibly physically through her youth she clung to her religion as the one stable thing in her life. She lived in a great deal of terror through the reigns of her father and brother. when she came to the throne, she honestly should have stepped aside and allowed Elizabeth to reign but she fullfilled her mother's drem of her being Queen. Unfotunately she married her first cousin Phillip II of Spain (a bad trait amongst the Hapsburgs) and he brought over the Inquisition to England. He used her love for him to begin the slaughter of Protestants in England. Throught her reign, even though Mary did have 300 people burned to death, this is nothing against her sister Elizabeth who did the same for over 800 Catholics when they refused to give up the Mass. (No, I'm not Catholic, I'm a Pagan...I would have been burned either way).Mary has been portrayed as a bloody queen but she really had bad press from the people who wanted to laud her sister...and we all know how Elizabeth liked flattery.
