My partner and i would like to start a family but he had a versectomy 4 years ago from his previous marrage. People have said it can be reversed but there is only a 50/50 chance of natural conception. Others have said if it can't be reversed then a man is still producing and it can be extracted out...... does anyone have any ideas???

Yes it can definitely be reversed and if it's only been four years since your partner's vasectomy then you could stand quite a good chance of success. My husband had his reversed in March after 14 years and the operation was a complete success. The sperm are healthy and his count is lower than the average but it always will be after a reversal. The clinic that we went to was The Hartlepool Vasectomy Reversal Clinic and it was Dr. Andrew Dawson that performed the reversal. He has trained in America and is the only doctor in the uk to perform Microsurgical Reversal, which carries a much higher success rate and afterwards he can advise you on vitamins to take in order to increase sperm count and health. If you decide to go ahead and visit a doctor they will just refer you to the local Bupa and their success rates are fairly low, whereas the techniques Dr. Dawson uses offer an 80 percent success rate. The only advice I can offer you is to do your research first, but definitely look into the Hartlepool clinic, they are worth their weight in gold. Even if you don't manage to get pregnant after having the reversal you can always get some sperm frozen for other options. Best of luck, whichever path you choose.

My hubby had a reversal after 5 years. Initially we were told it had been a sucess, but we have since found out he has a very low sperm count and we have been unable to conceive naturally. We have tried IVF, but sadly that didn't work either. There is a procedure called surgical sperm retrival that can be done as part of an IVF cycle which I understand has good results. If you would be paying for the vasectomy reversal I suggest you find out more about surgical sperm retrieval first. as it may well be a better option. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes, it can be reversed - but you are not guaranteed to be fertile after the operation. Also, recent research indicates men have more medical problems after a reversal than those that have a vasectomy and no reversal. He should consult a doctor to get the facts before making a decision.

If it has only been 4yrs you sholud be ok, after 10years i think they would refuse to reverse as it has less chance of working.
It also depends on whether the tubes were clipped, cut or smoldered together.. get your partner to find out how it was done

Reversal is indeed possible. Consult a doctor for more qualified and trained advice. But, I think you are in luck.

Depends which one your partner had

1, tubes are cut, folded back & tied, its just possible this one could be reversed

2, part of tube is removed & ends are sealed, No chance of reversal

yes it is reversible so I'm told by a recipient and who better to tell you but apparently it does not function on everyone so i guess its a case of how your luck runs

yes it can be reversed in most cases......but a man who has had a vasectomy will have a lowered sperm count so conception might be difficult.
