F2 is most likely the key that needs to be pressed. HOWEVER, you may not see the prompt to press F2 if you have a laptop or a desktop with an LCD monitor. LCD monitors and some CRT monitors automatically adjust to changes in the display resolution that occur on windows boot up and mask the messages that appear when doing so. And your problem that is putting you into Safe Mode may be a serious one such as lack of a driver to run your video card or a failed video card. Additional problems can be caused with new software installations or recent video driver upgrades to the wrong driver. What you need to do is look at what you have installed recently which may have caused this problem.

shut down the computer completely, turn it back on and hit F2 as it is rebooting. That should take you to a menu in which you can choose what type of mode etc. F2 NOT F8!!! I have done this several times, I have xp and i have to hit F2.
