45 and over

I think that there is not an old age to have a baby. If you take care or yourself you can have a healthy baby. I hear that there is a risk having a baby at the age of 45 or more. I think that if you and you husband are healthy and take care of yourself the baby can be as healthy as you. Good luck with you decision. Maybe the too old would be 40-50 years old.

Risk of Down Syndrome is higher, the older you are.
At age 25, risks are 1 in 1300 births.
At age 30, 1 in 965 births.
At age 35, 1 in 365 births.
At age 40, 1 in 109 births.
At age 45, 1 in 32 births.
At age 49, 1 in 12 births. That is a 92% chance that you will have a baby with down syndrome. Those are not the only factors. Mothers who are over 35 are more likely to develop high blood pressure, diabetes, and are more subject to miscarriages.

When you go into menopause! Before that, you're not too old. However, women who get pregnant after age 35 are considered to be at high risk, so the woman would want to be especially diligent about her health and attending all her doctor visits.
But I have to add that God is sovereign and that every baby is a gift from Him...remember in the Bible-- Sarah, wife of Abraham gave birth to Isaac when she was 90! :)

After 35! Why? YOU will be older, and more regressive in life, not fair to a baby/child! Also, the human cells are like a copying machine, take an original, make a copy of it, then make a copy of the copy, etc etc, what happens? you get crappy results later on, meaning if you want a REALLY healthy offspring, you don't smoke, drink, do drugs, and have a baby in mid 20's or even around early 20's! (enjoy 16-22 if possible, it's the BEST time of your life!)

I wouldn't set an age number. My aunt was born to my grandparents when they were 51 (grandfather) and 40 (grandmother). This was their third child. They have such a great relationship. She is now 24 and they are just as close as ever.

You can't set a number, as long as you are healthy and know that you can take care of (run around with, wake up at all hours) the child, then go for it.

My friend Anne had a baby at 44 so I'll quote her......

"44 is not too old to have a baby, but 57 is definitely too old to start dealing with a teenager !

As long as you're still active and can run after a baby, you're not too old. I had mine at 38 and wouldn't change a thing!

35 is considered "advanced maternal age" by doctors. I think 40 is when you should stop. I think having parents the age of everyone else's grandparents in high school would be really hard.

over 45 only because it's not fair for the baby to lose parents so young.
