The biggest way is by providing us with a magnetic field. In addition to enabling us to find our (approximate) way north, this magnetic field deflects a good portion of the electromagnetic radiation coming from the sun. Without this protection, life on this planet would not be able to survive. The radiation would destroy sensitive organic chemicals needed for life.

I guess the big picture is that because of plate techtonics and volcanism, the earth is a living organism in a constant state of change. Over the millenia, continents have come and gone and the land and seas are constantly changing and life adapts to those changes.

Hi. Mainly by causing the tectonic plates to move (earthquakes, effects on species development due to isolation, volcanoes and their effect on weather, etc.).
