It is very similar as Fishing is to catching. You can go fishing without catching anything. Hope that helps.

Shopping doesn't not automatically imply buying. To the best of my knowledge, only women are capable of doing this on a regular basis, not just high end expensive stuff. Women can "go shopping" all day without a credit card or a single dime. Unfortunately though they can, they frequently do end up buying, and usually more than the item that was the main reason to goto the store. Guys tend to have a list, or even a single item to buy. They go into the store, find those items, perhaps check for proper fit where appropriate, goto the checkout, then go home. A woman with the same list will take 4 times as long, spend twice the amount of money, and cheerfully tell her man how much she just saved him.

Well I admit this is full of stereotypical gender basing but mostly true:

A guy can buy without shopping (go online & buy - or walk into a store and not have to look around to know exactly what he want's.)

A woman does both, sometimes she does like reconisense to find out where the best deals and the best styles are and she knows she's not going to buy anything on that trip. "window shopping" is kinda just looking.

The woman also has the ability to max out her credit card when she "power" shops by going and spending a whole evening trying on everything and buying whatever makes her feel beautiful. That is a dangerous combination of buying while shopping.

To many guys the words are interchangable - I don't really like to do either one unless nessecary - women love to do both whether they really need to or not, even if its just for fun

Buying is a specific action, carried out when you are in need. Shopping includes the component of enjoyment too. Shopping is a generalised one which also may involve buying. Buying usually takes very less time as you know what you want, from where and how much and within how much. In shopping all the above parameters vary very widely from zero to till your purse and legs co-operate .

Women can shop for hours, or even days without ever buying anything. It's especially easy to do if you have no money! To shop is merely to look in a store, online, etc. for items or pricing. To buy means to actually purchase something.

Yes. A big one.

I always shop around first, for most things, then armed with full knowledge , I make up my mind, and buy exactly what I need, afford and wish.

So I hope you understood the deference between Shopping and Buying.

You can shop without buying something at that moment. Shopping is the process of looking for something to buy.

One goes to do shopping, looks around in many shops before buying something.

Buying is aquiring the thing that you've already shopped. But whatever, both are just a heavy head ache for men who go along with women.

I would say that buying involves an exchange of money for the goods.
Shopping does not need to involve an exchange of money ie. you can go shopping and not buy anything.
