Theres a park up on Coldwater Canyon/Mulholland that is great for relaxing - it's huge and has a lake and countless trails, not to mention benches/grass, etc and it's usually never packed.
You might have trouble finding it your first time cause it's not an actual "park" I think it's classified as a nature reserve and it's down a private type of road.

The Japanese Park in Van Nuys by Balboa Park. I like to buy at hot-dog at Genesta Park in Encino. Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon is nice.

There is a beautiful Zen garden around Balboa Park at the reclamation center, which is watered with reclaimed water.

Brand Park & Library in Glendale is one of my favorites. Beautiful lawns, fabulous castle (which is Brand's former home, now a library) and great wilderness trails. Very pastoral and relaxing. And it's free!
