They play on an open space outside my house all the time and the noise is driving me crazy. Have asked the council to sort it out and they have not taken any notice. The ball continually goes onto my property and potential damage is only a ball away. The street wardens have chosen to do nothing.

Talk to their parents. If that does not work, go to your police precinct and ask if there is anything they are you can do.

Why don't you leave the kids alone. There are very few places for kids nowadays to play. Be glad they are doing something loke playing football instead of sitting on their butts watching TV all the time or worse out causing real trouble. Ease up and let the kids be kids. If they do cause any "real" damage such as a broken window then go to the parents for payment but a ball in your yard is not going to hurt anything.

if they are playing football and its not at an unreasonable hour and its on open space there is really not a lot you can do, if they start to cause a nuisance you could ask them in a nice way to be a bit more careful. putting no ball games up means nothing really as who is going to enforce this and sometimes they can cause more problems.. it all goes as well how you talk to the kids the more aggressive you are and i mean in tone of voice the more they will do it to wind you up. and like others have said talk to parents again in a calm way. hope this helps a bit

The police may not be all that sympathetic. I know because I was a victim of such hooliganism. The kids actually demolished my garden wall brick by brick. When I contacted the police they asked me to identify the culprits, which oviously I could not as they are very intimidating. In the end I had to pay out of my own pocket to rebuild the wall.

jeezus, give them a break. there are very few parks and fields around where they can play ball games. if they are playing football then
A) it is good exercises (childhood obesity being a huge problem and all)
B)they are not stood outside the shop drinking cider and harassing everyone that goes past.
C) let them enjoy being young, you were young once and i am sure playing football on a field was way down there at the bottom of the list of antics you use to get up to at that age.

Have a look on your local councils website. Although I dont think the law will change from one council to the next this one is for North East Lincolnshire.

The Highways Act 1980 s161(3) states that "if a person plays at football or any other game on a highway to the annoyance of a user of the highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding [level 1 on the standard scale].

As with all national laws this is enforceable by the Police. The Council is not empowered to enforce this particular national law.

"No ball games" signs are not required by the Police for them to undertake enforcement although it is recognised that their presence may aid enforcement.

"No ball games" signs are erected on the highway solely to aid Police enforcement and consequently it is a pre-requisite of their erection for the Police to have undertaken to enforce this law. Usually this requires the Police to make a request to the Council for the provision of such signs.

Or you could contact your local Councellor, you can find out who they are here

There is also another UK questions page you might try asking your question on here

hope this helps :)

Get on to the council again! They CAN do something. They will errect No Ball Games signs and then you have the recourse of calling on the park wardens to enforce it. Also the local community police.

Be glad they're playing and not damaging property. Kids don't play in in streets enough anymore. We have a large group, and I watch.

you want to live in my house. they use my gate as a goal so the noise is unbelievable. told them loads to move but they wont and there is loads of land in front of my house but they won't use it. i don't like to push it really coz the last time i pulled them they tipped my wheelie bin out outside my front door so i just grin and bear it now. sad i know but it really isn't worth the hassle. i hope you have a better breed of teenager around you then i have.

I don't think you have any cause for action. If the kids aren't on your property...

One positive is if they're playing football at least they're not out causing trouble. If it really bothers you that much you could try talking to their parents.
