Yes you can... When you take out our old processor theres an ingraving in the plastic (ex: PGA370 for intel celeron and pentium 3), that's the socket so just find a new processor that fits that socket and put it right in... go to http://www.newegg.com , they have alot of computer hardware deals... Depending on what socket you have is important, for example you can't fit a socket 775 cpu in a socket 370's socket

it depends on the machine, since the motherboard can only support certain types of new processors, eg if you have a intel p3 motherboard, and u tired to install intel p4 it wouldnt work
so i would check the motherboard manual. to see what it can support.

the good information is that your hardware is fantastic. in case you get to the "living house windows loading" exhibit screen, your hardware is working. The undesirable information is which you have in simple terms discovered that living house windows does not like hardware adjustments. Your new motherboard and hardware is different sufficient that your outdated no longer easypersistent's living house windows installation won't artwork. you are able to attempt doing a "restore installation" of living house windows in case you have the unique CD, or you're able to be able to could desire to installation an fullyyt new version of living house windows to get the nicely suited drivers put in.

it all depends on HOW old the computer is and what the platform is!!
if it is a Pentium III, then it runs on the socket PGA 370, which is fairly old, u mite get a second hand P3 though
if it is a AMD Athlon XP/Duron/K6 then:
the athlon and duron run on the socket A/ socket 462. if it is a K6, then it runs on the socket 450.
