It depends on a few factors. Do you get pain from your flat foot? How flat footed are you? What types of shoes do you normally wear?
If you have pain from flat footedness, it often shows up in the knee joints after a long day of walking because you have less of an arch than other people you tend to turn your foot inwards as you walk. That causes your knees to be knocked kneed more often.
If you are only slightly flat footed, invest in shoes with good arch supoprt. My mom and sister (who are flat footed) find that slight heels help them because it produces an arch in their foot.
The best solution which my sister swears by are these shoe inserts called SuperFeed. They are awesome because it support your arch and holds your foot in place so you land on your foot with proper weight distribution. They are available online or at REI is where we get them.
Good luck.

flat foot is caused by weak ligaments in the foot.
Flexible flat feet don't need treatment, and a child with flexible flat feet will not experience any limitations in sports or other physical activities. In fact, the incidence of flat feet in professional athletes is equal to that of the general population. Furthermore, flexible flat feet don't cause pain or arthritis in adulthood.
If your child has either rigid flat feet or flat feet with tight heel cords, the only treatment is surgery to alter the shape of the foot.

I have flat feet and there really isn't anything you can do about it, if you have a child that has flat feet they make orthopedic shoes that can help try to mold the feet.
