I got a bill today from the clinic that says that my stepson who hasn't lived with us for 4 years was seen at the clinic in 2005. it's his social security # on the bill , but his dad's date of birth. they have the same name except my stepson's has Jr. after it. Now my husband has been seen at the clinic twice since 2005, but not my stepson. in fact my stepson lives on the other side of the good ol US Of A. With these inconsistencies is this bill uncollectable?

The reason I am asking is because The hospital ate my daughter's birthing bill because they billed the wrong # they were billing under my miscarriage. Also, one time I was paying on a bill found out it wasn't mine and ate that money I am just curious I don't want to get screwed. Also, there is a man in this town with the same last name as my husband's first name and have wound up paying those bills too. Just curious I don't want to screw anybody out of what I owe them IF I owe them. In the same sense I don't want to get screwed like I have been before either.

Call the Clinic and speak to someone in an their accounting department and explain the situation to them. Offer to give them the proper information and to straighten the whole thing out. Then ask them to resend the bill with the proper information on it. Obviously if your husband went to the clinic then you owe the bill, but the Clinic should correct the mistake because it can affect your stepson's credit since his SSN is on the bill.

Write them and let them know you don't believe the billing is correct and ask for written verification of the billing. By law they have to provide you with a written accounting. After you get the accounting, you will have a better idea if the bill is yours or not. If it is yours, pay it, if not, send them a letter detailing why the bill is not yours. In each letter, tell them not to impair your credit while you are reviewing the matter.

I'm not attorney but I do know you need to act timely to protect your rights. Don't just ignore the bill.

Good Luck.

Why don't you just call and straighten out the discrepancies with the clinic's billing department? If you don't, they'll continue to bill you and it will affect your credit rating.
