Like they have both been chosen for Amazing Race and can't tell their spouses! But I am an Indian and Amazing Race is not that big here and so people may lose the point. But on these lines...

There's always the standard murder plot. Or the surprise party. They could be starting a club or cult. They're spies, that's one I'm fond of. Or a joint business venture, something that they either need a patent or they are trying not to pay taxes. don't forget supernatural events.

Work associates sometimes meet because spouse may be jealous of the work relationship.
