I do not believe that Visa or MasterCard allow this practice anymore. You would be in violation of your merchant's agreement and subject to fines and/or cancellation of your account.

Contact your processing company and ask them.

As a matter of law, yes it is. The merchant is charged by the credit card company for every transaction they process, and there are no statutes that prevent them from passing this cost on to you. Two decades ago, gas stations would list two prices, one for cash, one for credit.

As a matter of practice, this is no longer done. Credit card issuers have made it part of their contractual arrangement with merchants to have identical cash and credit prices. If you believe you have been charged extra, you can probably contact customer service at your credit card company and get some response there. Consumer credit companies don't take this kind of thing likely.

some places do it as a fee. 1-3 bucke instead of paying cash. If you are being charged more for than item ( gas at 2.49 cash or 2.59 credit card) then that is illegal and report them

for visa and mastercard; no. but you can i believe with american and discover. the rule for those is that u can only charge if u charge for all of the other cards u except. so if they except visa or mastercard then they theoretically can't charge either.

contact visa, they'll contact the merchant.

I don't believe so. But why would you be dumb enough to use a credit card anyways?
