Jeez, no wonder you people have the opinions you do.
You're so simple minded you can't see the obvious.
"Stay the Course" means the end result is = WE WIN THE WAR.
HOW we win it is a constantly changing, chaotic situation, as every war in history has been. You have to respond to changing events, with changing tactics.
That doesn't make him a liar, it makes him smart.
If we pull out now, it will be a case of self-fulfilled prophecy; namely that this will turn out just like Vietnam, because that's what happened in Vietnam; liberals whined so much that we packed up, came home, and the bad guys won and slaughtered aboutu two million people.
You idiots want the same thing to happen now, just so you can say you were right that we shouldn't have gone over there.
Who cares is a couple million people die, just so you can be right, eh?

Increasingly, it appears that only President George W. Bush and a handful of those paid to agree with his every move, word and whim still think the United States can prevail in his failed Iraq war.

He is trying to save votes for republicans senators and congresspeople. Realizes things are going very badly and now "staying the course" is beginning to sound very dumb. Thinks people will forget what he said before (and some will) or won't replay all his "stay the course " comments.
Yes, he's lying, but that's part of his job a politician.

stay the course is not a plan .
Had there been a plan then maybe we would be out by now .
No one metioned creating a democracy until we had already begun troop deployments in Iraq .
Had anyone suggested we toss out saddam and stay until a democracy took over people would have been up in arms .

Why he never said that! Neither did he say: bring it on, weapons of mass destruction, Al-qeada training camps in Iraq, or that he would fire anyone in his office who leaked Valerie Plame's CIA status.
