I'd have a browse through Yahoo Groups... I had a friend who introduced me to another who owned a writers group (the best on on the net! Feeding Our Beautiful Minds). I made many friends through the group, learned alot about writing, met the man who I married three years later and moved to London for!
Yahoo 360 page will help you end up meeting people who you will find you have things in common with as well.
STAY AWAY FROM CHAT ROOMS!!!!!!!!! They're crap!
