I heard of an employer doing a mass layoff via e-mail pink slip. I thought this was an agregious abuse of power and lacked common decency. What is the safest and most humane way to layoff employees?

That is rediculious! I heard of one who text messaged the employee.... I would say the most respectful way would be to sit down with them and explain the situation and tell them they have to let them go to their face.

I think the most humane way would be to tell the person face-to-face. The employer would have some integrity that way as opposed to telling them via e-mail or on the phone.

Firing employees through email is cowardly and unprofessional. The employer should arrange a discreet meeting with the employee and dismiss them with a valid reason and explanation.

if it is a mass firing thru the company. an form letter is sent thru inter office mail. (or email anymore). It may be tacky but the company doesn't care they are no longer employees
