Edith loved Archie unconditionally. She could see past his behavior toward her. And he loved her, too. If you watched to the bad, bitter end of that series, he was inconsolable when she died. He was lost without her.

Oh my gosh.
I think that poor Edith had amazing self control and love for that wretched Archie.
I think that it was love to the 10th ++++++.
She actually went a little ballistic when she went through "the change". I remember watching this episode as a pre adolescent and watching it more recently as a "mature"woman. She showed restraint even though she was sooo mad.

because back in the day women were bred to be docile and accept men's opinions. I actually have an ad from Good Housekeeping from the 50's or 60's. Some on the list entailed keeping the house clean, if he wants to go out don't say anything because he worked hard, make sure the meal is done when he gets home.

thank goodness for progress

Probably because she knew she was always right. No one ever sided with Archie so she let him have at least that. (calling her dingbat)

Cause even though he called her a dingbat he loved her and she loved him. She was a real woman. Do what has to be done and don't blame your B****iness on other things.

Edith was too ignorant to do anything else. She always put him and her family ahead of herself.
