You won't save any gas. The engine will idle at the same speed whether it's in gear or in neutral. And if there's a time lag between when you shift into gear and when the transmission engages, and try to take off in a hurry, the transmission will sometimes bang into gear. That WON'T be good for it, and transmission repairs are expensive.

You'll save a lot more gas by accelerating slowly and smoothly, letting your foot off the gas well before you approach a stoplight or stop sign and coasting an extra couple hundred feet, and not speeding.

It will not save any significant amount of gas but it does put undo strain on the transmission and your brakes (when coasting, your engine will actually help slow you down). Plus, it is dangerous because if you need to accelerate quickly, you will waste precious time putting your car back in gear.

you have gotten the skill to do this throughout the time of a handbook transmission yet i does no longer do this throughout the time of a motor vehicle with an automated transmission as they're so plenty extra mushy and which will positioned alot of tension on the transmission. you somewhat arent saving any gasoline money as a results of fact once you need to positioned it back intochronic you will ought to develop up and which will use extra gasoline than holding a comfortable velocity inchronic. gasoline engines waste the main gasoline while commencing an accelerating.

It is illegal to take your car out of gear and coast. Don't know why you'd want to take it out of gear at a light? Does the car not idle properly and you need to rev to keep running? The risk of damaging your car or having an accident far outweigh the benefit of saving fuel. You should just leave it in gear and cruise.

why would you want to shift to neutral at stoplights? you are only going to save only a tiny fraction of your gas. you might accidentally shift to reverse when you are about to move.

not harmful, but it doesnt save that much, id guess if you drove your car to waste 309 gallons a week you might save 1/18 th of a gallon. but its fun, you feel like you own a stick shift.. and you roll backwards
