Are they full or empty? I cut the bottoms out and put them in the ground to keep cutworms away from my garden plants. Sometimes I put some beer in them to bait the slugs.

If you cut out the bottom of the gallon jug (plastic milk jug) and put it over a little seedling it functions as a mini- cold frame. It protects it from the wind and the cold air. Now if you cut a slit at the handle you can stake with a stick the jug to the gound so it will not blow away. you can use take the cap off if you do not want the heat to build up or keep it on the jug to keep the heat in.
That is how I get a jump start in the spring for my veggies. I do not know why some one would have the jug on a lawn.some times you can connect water bottles to watering cones stuck in the earth for watering

fill up the 5 gallon jug and pour into the three gallon jug to get 2 gallon in the 5 gallon jug. throw away the water in the three gallon jug and fill it with both gallon from the 5 gallon jug. now the 5 gallon jug is empty fill it up back and pour into the three gallon jug that already had 2 gallons in it to get 4 gallon in the 5 gallon jug :) good day both mine and cokytiger's technique works lol
