Sadly, knowing the politician and their stance doesn't mean anything.
Candidates will tell you what you want to hear. They will do whatever is necessary to get elected and then its public be darned.
Politics will take an honest person and turn them into a criminal. Abuse of power, plain & simple.
Before everyone starts spouting at the mouth about Bush - the above is true regardless of which party maintains office.
Politicians are nothing more than money hungry, greed grubbing, back stabbing, con artists awaiting for their chance to abuse the power.
All that one can really do is vote based on experience and past performances of each party, I'll choose Republican.

Okay I will. Gee, I never thought of seeing where the person I'm voting for stands on certain issues. Wow, what a great idea! We need to get that one out there! Plus, I'll remember not too wear a blindfold in the booth this time.

How can anyone vote responsibly when these politicians slander and defame each other yet if the average citizen would do this to another it would cost him/her jail time for slandering and defamation are against the law. I truly believe that 90% of candidates running for office including those already in office are in it for their own self interest and not for the peoples best interest. We have so much corruption in our government and when we the people get our rights and liberties taken from us we all cry foul yet you all voted these self-centered egotistical idiots into office in the first place. We as a people need to put the average Joe into office and vote out these congressmen who are so self indulged from multiple terms that they no longer possess the ability to even have a clue of what life as an american is anymore. They have no sense of reality of what life as a citizen in this country is anymore. This country is divided and a prime example is our divided government which chooses to discredit one party from another instead of working together in the interest of its people. So to ask anyone to vote responsibly would be better put as vote these idiots out of office and put people up there that don't have special interest with any organizations of any kind and one term is more than enough. Get rid of those that have been there for so long that the reality of life has escaped them due to the pampering and privileges that come with these positions. Two more years to get rid of the worst of the bunch which has caused irreperable damage to our country from terrorism which will find its way to our Malls, Stadiums, Schools and other places that people congregate. What are we to do then as americans who are going to be targets of these fanatics brought on by our political leaders who are protected at our expense. When one of our churches gets bombed you all bear the brunt of the blame for you elected these individuals which are causing us these problems which in time shall only worsen because of these politicians whom you voted for self interest and special favors are causing these attrocities to eventually flourish here at home where eventually we will no longer be free not trusting anyone, and suspecting everyone as a terrorist. Find me someone who we could trust and lead this country away from the damage that this government has caused our country and will eventually lead us down a long dark future for our next generation to only hear of how we use to be a free country. None of us people should suffer from our elected officials greed and incompetence. So yes; VOTE RESPONSIBLY; for our children deserve what we have fought for which is our freedom and the honor to call yourself an AMERICAN.

I do hope Americans vote responsibly, but just as important, I hope we have some responsible people to vote for. Their party doesn't matter at this point, just give us some good candidates .

That would surely be nice. However, way too few voters take the time to research the people and proposals on the ballot. There is no practical or legal method to keep stupid voters away from the polling booth. So dream on! We have the best system on the planet even though it is imperfect.

I always carry a quarter in the booth with me and sometimes I toss it for each contest on the ballot saying," Heads-Republican, tails-Democrat" and vote accordingly. Sometimes, when I am in a hurry, I toss the quarter and say, "Heads-Republican, tails-Democrat" and vote the ticket according to the toss. Is that what you mean? If I wasn't an independent, I would always vote for the heads, isn't that what Bill Clinton did? er---maybe he did vote for the tails!!

Great admonition. I have already voted in early voting. Sad to say, but there were two TN constitional amendments I had no idea were going to be on the ballot - and I thought I stayed pretty well informed.

A person's vote is for them to use or abuse as they see fit.
I have recently begun to see why, originally, only land owners could vote. Its a sign of responsibility to be a land owner.

It will never happen. We are comprised of stupid people. It seems like all those who actually know what is going on don't vote. We are weird, and I would like to apologize to the world.

All people who vote think they are doing so responsibly. Just because they don't vote your way doesn't mean they are irresponsible.
