I started with this company a little over 3 months ago. I came in here expressing that I lived for responsibility and that I wanted to move up in the company. To my surprise, they started training me to take over a big account that needs lots of special attention. I LOVE it. I absolutely love coming into work now becuase of this purpose I've been given. But, I feel like my supervisor is holding me back. Nice guy, but he and his 'pet' like to hand work off to other people and with my focus being more on this account, I'm not there to do all their 'crap work' when they need me to... So, he told the girl who is training me to take this account not to be giving me as much and that we were to split the work 50/50- when I could handle it all if given the chance. That way when they "needed me" I'd be available. This happened a week ago and she cut my work down and I have yet to see anything from my supervisor. What is going on here? Do I really have a reason to be complaining?! Help!

I don't know how bad you need this job, but hear me out. You have only been there 3 months. Do you feel like you're in the position to gripe about your job already? If you are confident in your abilities and could easily find another job if they fire you or make life miserable for you because you're a pain in the butt right off the bat, then I say speak up and state your case to a supervisor or boss. Maybe the work that they are having you do is more of a priority than you overseeing that big account. Most managers are doing their jobs, so if s/he needs you to throw out the trash or shred files, then that is the task at hand that he needs done more immediately. I'm sure the account is very important as well, but I'm willing to bet that the account is going to be OK. I'm sure it wont just go to pieces if you go file some papers for the day. Otherwise it's on your supervisor's butt anyway if he did make you staple papers when that account needed to be attended to. I'd say...just inquire about it innocently and try not to seem so pushy...you've only been there 3 months.

How can your supervisor be holding you back when s/he apparently gave you "a big account", unless s/he did not have any say in the matter. In which case s/he may be a bit resentful that someone else made a personnel decision relating to one of his/her employees.

It is not unusual for a supervisors to delegate "crap work", in order to expose employees to different situations and experiences.

You have been there 3 months and you LOVE it, so other than being given other work, what's your problem? If you don't have an additional assignment, you have more time to be trained for the "big account". Take the initiative and inform the trainer that since you have "free time" you want to have as mush training as possible.

Maybe they just think that you were too overloaded with one situation, and they want your expertise on other accounts. Your probably just over seeing the important things on the big account, and looking at the small details on other accounts. I wouldn't worry, unless they get you to where you have no work, then maybe...??

Probably you just work faster than everyone else, what takes you an hour or two could take a co-worker an entire day. I am one of those.. Maybe you are too.
