Based on some commentary I heard on the game yesterday, there is a different blocking scheme in Arizona then there is in Indy. First off Arizonas line is not as good as Indy's but Arizona employs more of a down hill running attack where as Indy has a cut back type of blocking scheme.

Edge was never a good running back. Look at what the Colts have done with Joe Adai when they let him run. If Rhodes would just unlearn some of the habits he has from watching James, he might be an OK back too. It was the Arm of Peyton Manning that allowed James to run as much as he did. While he was certainly better than the average RB, he did get a lot of help from the fact that most teams were defending against the pass when playing the Colts.
He now has to do it all on his own talent, and he does not have a coach that gives the team as much leeway in deciding plays as Dungy does the Colts. I think James needs to start earning his money or realize that the Colts made a good decision and realized that he is not worth all that money.
BTW, I have meet James, and he is a little bit of an arrogant snob in person, so I really don't feel bad at all for his lack of numbers this year.

I almost wonder if maybe Edge has never been as good as we all thought. In Indy he was running behind one of the lines in the league and still didn't show himself to an astonishing back. He was good yes, but not anything that couldn't be replaced. The field was also very spread in Indy because of the passing attack. Yes, Arizona has a passing game but it's not close to Indy's. And yes the o-line is weak but it's not all that bad I don't think. They do show the ability to protect the QB somewhat. Hell, they do better than the o-line in Houston and Domanick Davis was still able to perform well in Houston. I'd really be interested in seeing how well a really good back could perform in Arizona, like Tiki Barber, Shaun Alexander, Willie Parker, etc. So yeah, part of me wonders if maybe we all had overrated Edge big time.

well for starters people might not agree, but changing teams i think is huge, new system ,new team, and now another offensive coordinator to deal with.like u said offensive line is not well. u have to realize that in Indy the line was decent and he is one of the most patient Rb's in the league, which is good when u have a line .but with out 1 ur losing more than u gain.unless ur Barry sanders, which hes not...give him some time i sure hes even more frustrated than all of us fantasy owners.....question was very surprised when they did pick edge, because they have J.J. Arrington good Rb bad off.line .u think that all the teams that drafted a rookie Rb or QB 2 to 3 years ago would give them an opportunity....like Jay Cutler,Jason Campbell,Tony Romo

I am from Indianapolis and the people here still respect and admire Edge's talent and greatness. I would say just give it time. You have to remember that Edge is used to being behind one of the best offensive lines that the NFL has to offer (the Colts) so he just has to get used to the holes not being as big and that he will have to move more and make more maneuvers to get yards. Just give it time. I hope that answers your question. Go Colts!

poor o-line play, that simple, there is no reason to go deeper a good Rb is bad behind a bad line (like edge) and an average Rb is great behind a great line (any Denver back), plus he signed for a big paycheck, he possibly lost some motivation

Its the offensive line and the offense. You have to establish the run to open up the pass or vice versa. The Cardinals offense can't seem to sustain either for long enough periods of time to be effective.

i think his numbers may be down cuz of an inferior line and also cuz the Cards are often behind and have to throw a lot rather than hand off to him.
