Personally, I think Aragorn was the best character. Just the storyline of his character is reason enough. Known as an "outcast" of sorts, but yet the heir to the throne.

My favorite was always Faramir. He was the younger ignored brother. When he had a chance to finally shine in his father's eyes, he turned away from it and did the right thing. He was such a great captian, his men rode out against a nazgul to save him, and the romance between him and Eowen was so sweet. I nearly cried in the movie when PJ decided to have him try to take the ring.
