That they would go as far as destroying their own family and trying to destroy his own child's life. If everything was normal while they grew up - he grew up in a very wealthy household. Went to the best schools, best jobs. Married the perfect wife - had the perfect baby . . . but then he lost his mind. How does that happen?

First of all, having a mental illness does not neccessarily mean that you "lose your mind". Most people who have a mental illness get through life very well with support and/or medication, and don't cause big problems.

Second, as another person said, what appears as a perfect life on the outside may have been far from it.

Many people who are mentally ill show no signs of it outwardly until a triggering event. They may have known all along things were not well within themselves, but were able to hide it from those around them.

And then .. there are those that kind of go off the deep end, and not even realize what they are doing. Or be so full of built up hate that they dont care.

The only thing you can do if in danger (pohysically OR mentally/emotionally or any other way) is to distance yourself from this person and tell them until they get help, you will not associate with them. I know this is hard, but you have to first protect yourself. And you cant make other people get help.

There is no answer to this question. mental illness can be triggered by a genetic pre-disposition, use of drugs and alcohol, stress, or nothing at all. And what you THINK is his perfect life, could have been FAR FROM IT in his own mind.

He must have felt deeply hurt and lost self believe. It can happen to any body who is in such a circumstance where people does not give him the mental support. He must be weak in his heart and mind. It has nothing to do with best education or job or wife or kids or anything at all.

depression is one and alsothinking about something too much or worriying too much... it doesnt necessarily mean that you have everything in life that you dont worry about anything... the more you have in life, the more you have things to worry about... sometimes the people who have everything are the most unhappiest of people... maybe he have some issues that he kept secret from the rest of the world and from thinking about it too much, it finally made him loose his mind...
